The owners of this three-storey home – a couple with two grown-up children – decided to renovate it to tailor it to their new needs. They wanted to have a spacious daytime living area that would let them enjoy family get-togethers and yet wouldn’t feel empty when it was just the two of them.

With hardly any structural changes, the renovation integrated the island kitchen, dining room and living room into just one practical, multipurpose, open-plan room that would foster interaction among users. The large windows – aside from letting plenty of natural light stream in, help to connect the daytime living area with the garden – turning it into an extension of the indoors.

After the renovation, the kitchen with island became the hub of the home. To fit it out, a FINE design by Santos was chosen, combining the Mink Grey and Earth Walnut wood finishes.

The kitchen furniture is laid out around a large centre island that holds the preparation and cooking areas. The inner face comes with two drawer units and a hob unit with extractor hood and front ventilation for hob. In contrast, the outer face is clad with a panel that goes all the way to the floor finished in Earth Walnut wood, which is rounded off with stools. This way, it serves as a comfortable counter to enjoy quick meals without having to move to the diner.

The rest of the furniture cabinets are laid out in an L along two partition walls. One of them comes with three tall units that integrate a fridge, freezer, oven and microwave oven, a tall utility unit and a larder unit that’s perfect for organising the shop thanks to its interior double drawers.

The corner of the L shape was used to create the washing-up area, fitted with a built-in dishwasher, base blind corner storage unit and sink unit with recycling bins in the bottom double drawer. A wine cooler and base unit with double drawers and interior drawer complete the second row of furniture.

This duplex is found in a new-build building set in a rural area. The owner, a young single, wanted to give his home a discreet and sophisticated look that was pleasing at the same time, and he also wanted a large social area that would let him hold get-togethers at home.

The rooms were grouped together according to their function, with the private areas on the ground floor and the daytime living area on the first floor. The island kitchen, dining room and living room all share this open-plan space. Green panelling – which discreetly conceals the guest toilet and a walk-in wardrobe – adds a touch of colour.

The daytime living area connects to a terrace with a barbecue, which affords amazing views of a vast plain brimming with cereal fields, with the moorland as the backdrop. Its interior design sought to reinforce continuity between this outdoor space and the indoors.

The kitchen, fitted out with a FINE design by Santos with Silk Mink Grey fronts, is laid out around a large centre island that holds the preparation, cooking and washing-up areas. On its inner face, the island features an integrated dishwasher, a hob unit with full-extension, large-capacity double drawers and drawers, as well as a sink unit with recycling bins in the bottom double drawer. The outer face combines a drawer unit and panelling finished in Rustic Oak wood. This area, rounded off with stools, serves as a counter to enjoy snacks or appetisers.

The kitchen furnishings were rounded off with tall units laid out in an L shape along two partition walls. The first section holds three tall larder units and two fridge units, while the second section features two oven units, two utility units and a pocket door cabinet located perpendicular to the island. The latter’s fronts can be temporarily hidden away along its sides, providing easy access to the entire space. Its interiors – customised in a Rustic Oak wood finish – include shelves with rear LED lighting, drawers and an auxiliary work area with worktop, lighting profile and plug sockets. This is why it’s perfect as a breakfast area or for working with small appliances without having to move them around.

The ground floor of the property has a circulation space where an open-plan room that serves as an office is found. In addition, a bespoke drawer unit was installed beneath the staircase to make the most of the space.

This home is part of a quiet residential complex with a swimming pool, communal areas and green spaces. The house, despite being a new build, had a classic layout that made it look less bright and spacious. A comprehensive renovation of the daytime living area gave rise to more free-flowing and comfortable spaces that encourage the family to get together and spend time together.

After the renovation, the entrance hall now leads into a spacious and bright room, which is shared among the island kitchen, dining room and living room. The predominance of light colours is offset by wooden finishes, which bring a warm and homey touch to the whole. The furnishings – suitable and pared down – make the room look great while being functional without reducing the living space.

The kitchen is the centrepiece of the daytime living area, naturally and harmoniously blending into it. The clean lines of the FINE model by Santos – with its plain fronts without handles finished in Sand Grey and Light Elm wood – were chosen to fit it out.

The furniture is laid out in parallel, with a large island made to measure and a large row of units running along the length of the partition wall. The corridor passage between these two areas was tiled with ceramic flooring, which contributes to demarcating and defining the work area. A ceiling hood takes care of fume extraction, creating a more open space as it does away with visual barriers.

At its ends, the row of furniture has two tall storage units, another tall unit integrating a fridge and freezer, and a fourth tall unit integrating an oven and microwave oven, aside from additional storage space.

The middle of the composition was reserved for the washing-up area. The bottom of this area features an integrated dishwasher, a storage unit and a sink unit with recycling bins in the bottom double drawer. Three wall units with flap doors are found above these units, with fronts finished in Light Elm wood and an LED lighting profile integrated underneath.

Three top box units round off the composition, expanding the capacity of the units all the way up to the ceiling. These provide a practical solution to store rarely used items that would otherwise take up valuable space in the kitchen.

The island holds the preparation and cooking areas, and features an innovative induction hob that is almost unnoticeable. On its inner face, it has a hob unit and two large drawer units with full-extension, large capacity double drawers.

In contrast, the outer face was fused together with wood slats separating the room from the lounge/diner, reinforcing the role of the island as a transition point between the different spaces. In front of these slats, there’s a sideboard from the Santos Living line, made up of three drawer units with double drawers and interior drawers, which serves the lounge as well as the diner.
