The couple who owns this home, set amidst a nature park on the outskirts of Madrid, decided to renovate it to enjoy it on the weekends. To do so, they did a comprehensive renovation characterised by respect for the original elements of the house and a design in harmony with the environment without sacrificing comfort. The interior design emphasises brightness and an open-plan feel, featuring a colour scheme where light colours predominate. The different textures of wood add a warm and cosy touch, which further reinforces the traditional and rustic look of the house.

A double-leaf door made of recovered wood connects the dining and living areas with the kitchen, where the work area shares space with an office with a fireplace. The main zones in the kitchen follow a U-shaped layout, comprised of practical and easy-to-use equipment with a large amount of space to store utensils and supplies in an organised manner. A multipurpose peninsula that is parallel to the preparation area rounds off the furnishings, providing an additional work surface.

This rustic home with thick stone walls, located in a mountain hamlet in the region of Maragatería in León, was renovated in its entirety both outside and inside, including a redistribution of space. Thus, after completion of the works, the private areas are now on the ground floor while the public areas are on the upper floor. In the latter, the structure of wood trusses stands out, which, like the exposed stone on the walls, gives the space a very distinct personality.

The upper floor is divided into two halves, one for the kitchen and dining area, and another for the living area. The absence of visual barriers facilitates the connection among the rooms, further emphasising the open-plan feel and brightness of the floor. The kitchen furniture, a Graphene FINE by Santos, seamlessly blends into the home’s interior design. The combination of the island and tall units makes it possible to have everything needed to work without having to move around, facilitating tasks and avoiding unnecessary trips.
