Santos kitchens in the designer Natalia Zubizarreta’s home

The interior designer Natalia Zubizarreta chose a Santos kitchen for her home mainly due to one reason: it’s the brand she has always worked with throughout the 18 years of her professional career and she has always had good experiences with her clients thanks to its design, functionality and durability.

Natalia Zubizarreta based the interior design of her home on a continuous search for balance between classic and contemporary. To this end, when kitting out the kitchen, she went for the MARCO design by Santos, with mouldings that give it a subtle traditional touch. To serve as a contrast, she used details with a more modern look such as the black kitchen taps, handles or lighting, creating a harmonious whole brimming with character.

For the finish of the units, she chose lacquered Cashmere, which works very well with the touches of wood and the natural raffia fibre paper on the walls. This combination creates a very homey atmosphere, which gives the feeling that you’re in the lounge instead of the kitchen – which was what the interior designer wanted to achieve

In this regard, the keys lie in the centre table around which the whole room is laid out and the glazed enclosure that not only visually connects the kitchen to the rest of the home but also lets plenty of natural light stream in. In fact, the designer admitted that – despite having a separate diner – both she and her guests prefer staying in the kitchen, as it’s so warm and cosy that nobody wants to leave it.

To hit just the right note for the kitchen layout, Natalia Zubizarreta analysed both her needs and the movements and daily tasks she performs in the kitchen. The room is quite small, so she did everything she could to make the most of every last inch of available space, with units that go all the way to the corners to maximise their capacity.

Thus, she placed the oven under the hob, to avoid further reducing the worktop surface with another tall unit. She also expanded her storage options by including a decorative glass door unit – a special piece of furniture that adds a lot of personality.

Moreover, she decided to position the sink beneath the window as it’s so much more pleasant to work while facing it, and she installed a microwave oven hidden inside the cupboards to reduce the number of appliances in plain sight as much as possible.
