Santos kitchens in architect Mónica Diago’s home

Architect Mónica Diago chose to fit out her home with a Santos kitchen because – aside from always considering this brand to be synonymous with design and quality – she wanted durable furniture that was in keeping with her style.

Projects with a keen eye for detail

Mónica Diago is an architect who specialises in comprehensive renovations and interior design. She founded her own studio in 2011 and, since then, she has set out to create homes where bright, elegant, functional spaces predominate, characterised by a keen eye for detail. This is why her projects have been published in many trade magazines, and have even appeared on TV shows.

In 2012, together with two other partners, Mónica set up the boutique developer Lumier, which is engaged in renovating luxury homes in Madrid and Barcelona. These projects manage to bring to light and breathe new life into spaces at premium locations aimed at customers who want a turnkey delivery.

When the time came to tackle the renovation project for her own home, Mónica Diago decided that her main objective was to create large and very bright spaces. The kitchen, one of the rooms where she spends the most time with her family, showcases this wonderfully.

The kitchen connects to the lounge through a glazed enclosure, with plenty of natural light streaming in through large windows. This was further enhanced by using a mainly white colour scheme set off to perfection by wood notes that bring warmth. The whole creates a cosy, serene, open-plan space which is modern yet timeless at the same time.

The furniture, a FINE design by Santos finished in Silk Sapporo White, is laid out around a centre island that holds the cooking zone. Its worktop, with an overhang on the outer face, serves as a counter to have breakfast, snacks or appetisers.

Parallel to the island are the preparation and washing-up zones, located in front of a window to make the most of light from outside. Just like the island, these units come with a white resin worktop that – aside from not having any seams and joints between both the upstand and sink – is extremely hygienic and easy to clean.

The furnishings are rounded off by tall units which hold different appliances and additional storage solutions in a compact and tidy area. This way, everything is always tidy and hidden from view – a key feature in kitchens open to other areas in the house.
