When asked about her beginnings in the world of interior design, Begoña Susaeta recalls that it was an old boyfriend who encouraged her to make the most of her skills in this sector, not without warning her beforehand that she wouldn’t make a living through it. Now, it is quite obvious that the latter prediction was quite mistaken.
The designer began her professional career in 1989, alongside the interior designer Luis Castejón, after completing a master´s degree in Milan (Italy). A year later she decided to go independent to carry out her projects with complete freedom, focusing on the renovation of commercial and hotel premises and small offices. One of those first projects earned her a prize from the Department of Culture of the Basque Government and, from there, she increasingly began to make a name for herself. In 1998 she received a proposal to become a partner and form a company, thus kick-starting a business career that, from 2000, led her to make her first incursions into the field of private homes.
In 2005 she founded her own design studio, Sube Interiorismo, which currently employs 8 people, including builders and decorators, and offers comprehensive and quality solutions within the field of interior design and renovation. Although a journalist defined her style with the term “Basque-Scandinavian”, Begoña refers to it as classic-contemporary, nourished by the English and French influences she has experienced in Getxo. In all of her designs she pays special attention to lighting, and always takes care of the slightest details to create surprising, warm and welcoming spaces.
