Black and wood kitchen with island and diner in a refurbished detached house

The new owners of this detached house – a couple with three children – decided to carry out a comprehensive renovation to tailor it to their needs, giving it large, bright and practical spaces, as well as a contemporary and minimalist style that’s more to their taste.

The two-storey home dates back to the 1950s, featuring architecture comprised of materials that are traditional yet unconventional in their shapes and structure. The home is set on a south-facing plot measuring 5,000 square metres in a stunning location amidst greenery and with breathtaking views of the horizon.
The project not only redesigned the interiors of both levels of the house, but also changed the building envelope with a view to installing large windows that would let plenty of natural light stream in.
Likewise, work was done on the outdoor areas to add a garden with pool, as well as a container-based building used as a workspace.
Public spaces: lounge, kitchen with island and diner
The renovation grouped public spaces on the ground floor of the house, including a large lounge located in the middle of this level, plus a kitchen with diner and adjoining laundry which occupies one of its wings. The entrance leads directly to the lounge, which is visually separated from the entrance hall by wooden slats.
The kitchen has been fitted out with a FINE model by Santos, a design with sleek lines and plain fronts without handles which discreetly blends into the home’s interior design.
The room has been laid out in an L around a large centre island finished in Silk Black. This unit holds the preparation, cooking and washing-up areas, and comes with an integrated dishwasher, sink unit with recycling bins, hob unit and drawer unit with drawers and full-extension, large-capacity double drawers. The worktop – with an overhang towards the outer face and one of the sides of the island – serves as a counter for snacks or meals.
Parallel to the island is a composition flanked by two tall units that feature two drawer units, two top box units and an open breakfast nook finished in Earth Walnut wood in the middle. In the latter, the lighting profile with plug sockets makes it easy to use small appliances without having to move them around.
The kitchen furnishing have been rounded off with a set of tall units finished in Earth Walnut which – running perpendicular to the island, holds two fridge units, two utility units and two oven units in a compact and organised space.
Private spaces: bedrooms, ancillary areas and recreational rooms
The house boasts five suites distributed across both floors connected by a floating staircase: three on the ground floor, occupying the wing opposite the kitchen and diner, and two on the semi-basement floor.
Aside from two bedrooms, the semi-basement floor holds ancillary areas such as storage rooms, building services rooms and the garage, more private spaces such as an office, a gym and a toilet, and rooms for enjoying moments of leisure such as a game room and a family room.
