Photographer María Merchante began her career as a quantity surveyor dealing with the control and management of construction works. However, she gradually realised that there was something missing in her everyday life.
She needed a creative outlet, so she decided to take up a Master’s degree in Interior Design and Architecture at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid. She then moved to A Coruña, where she continued her training by studying Photography at the Pablo Picasso College of Art and Design.
After finishing her studies, she moved to London to work as an assistant to the prestigious architecture photographer Hélène Bidet, who she considers to be her greatest professional role model. In fact, she acknowledges that she learned to look at things with calm and tranquillity from her in order to convey these feelings through images.
In 2015, she embarked on her professional career as an architecture and interior photographer, which she juggles with her two other passions: carrying out interior design projects and styling spaces.
María takes particular care with the prep involved in decorating and styling the spaces she takes photographs of, as she considers them to be key to ensuring that every project expresses its own character.
