Clysa, an exclusive Santos kitchen showroom in Barcelona, has always been defined by its passion for design, innovation and attention to detail. These values, which are evident in all its interior design projects, are the key to its talent for bestowing spaces designed to thrill, live and enjoy with a unique character. A philosophy that it has also been able to capture in its stunning new premises.
Clysa, passion for design since 1998
The Clysa kitchen studio was founded in 1998 as a result of the spin-off from a group of installation companies. This paved the way to a new start for the duo made up of Raquel García—interior designer—and Aurelio Sánchez—architectural technician—, in which they were finally able to give their spirit of inquiry and creative minds free reign. They set up shop in Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona) and since then, they have focused on carrying out increasingly complex and comprehensive interior design projects for both private clients and professionals, in which they expanded and connected the kitchen area to the rest of the home.
In response to the growing workload, specialists from different fields were added to the initial team. Clysa currently has a staff of 7 interior designers, 3 technicians, 3 administrative staff and 2 communication managers. And in 2004, it expanded its premises. In 2018, the studio made a huge leap forward by moving to its new premises tailored to its needs in Sant Feliu de Llobregat (Barcelona).
Unique premises in line with the studio’s philosophy
The decision to relocate to new premises was driven by a natural evolution. The studio’s growth, both in terms of the team and projects, made it necessary to move to a larger location. Raquel and Aurelio, founders and managers, had the same idea in this regard—a far cry from what is considered the norm in furniture showrooms. They both wanted the new premises to allow visitors to experience what a home feels like, for them to see how all the pieces logically fit together, contributing towards the harmony of the whole.
The process of searching for new premises was difficult, but when they found the building that serves as their headquarters today, they realised it fit what they had in mind to a T. It’s a noucentist building designed in 1926 by the architect Salvador Valeri i Pupurull, and it is listed as an Architectural Heritage Site of Catalonia. After an intensive refurbishment process, Clysa opened the doors to its new premises, which bring together the concepts of workplace, showroom and home. The outcome is a vibrant and open space that fosters interaction, inspiration, discovery and the exchange of experiences and impressions. Showroom visits, team meetings, technical talks and product training sessions, aside from activities and events aimed at strengthening ties with customers, take place in it simultaneously and in a coordinated manner. Everything flows very dynamically, and ideas emerge more naturally and creatively.
The building features both contemporary elements and classical elements such as pinnacles, balustraded railings and canopies. The interiors have kept the essence of the period alive, as shown by the original woodwork, mouldings and flooring. A staircase vertically articulates the space, and around it, a lookout tower crowned by a terrace stands.
The ground floor serves as a display home—which comes with a suite, kitchen for cooking demos, living area, library, reading room, toilet and a large car park—, while the first floor is where the kitchen showroom, offices, meeting rooms and other showrooms are found. The second floor is the home of Raquel and Aurelio which also serves as a display home by appointment. The deck is used as a display area for outdoor furniture, and it comes with a kitchen and casual dining area, while the basement, which boasts a Catalan vault, has been fitted out as a meeting room with a kitchenette.
With a floor area of more than 300 square metres, the Clysa showroom features a selection of furniture and interior design brands that stand out for their design and quality, including the latest Santos kitchen models, bathroom furniture and accessories, flooring, wall coverings and multiple lighting options.
Although starting out in a new location is always a challenge, for Clysa the experience has been nothing but positive. On a personal level, Raquel and Aurelio acknowledge that bringing the home and workplace together has been a great idea that makes their day-to-day lives so much easier. Moreover, having a car park and excellent public transport connections has made it easier for customers to reach them. In fact, many of those who visit Clysa are amazed to discover that a place such as this is just a few minutes away from Barcelona.
