Santos open-plan kitchens: design, organisation and functionality

—19 / 05 / 2016—

Various publications that are specialised in decoration and interior design have covered projects of homes where the kitchen, fitted with cabinets designed by Santos, opens up to the living room or to other rooms in the home. In all of the examples, a good choice of furniture and colour palette, together with a good planning of the space, have helped create multi-functional organised kitchens that are perfect for both work and leisure.

The renovation published by Cocinas y Baños and Novy’s blog transforms a space of just 8m2 into a perfect kitchen for its owners, a couple with two children: organised, comfortable and equipped for working and for enjoying with the family. As the kitchen shares space with the living room and dining room, the main objective was to achieve a discreet and balanced composition. The LINE-L model from Santos was chosen in Sand Grey. A design that, thanks to its minimalist aspect and simple lines, adapts perfectly to the interior design of the house. The solutions for built-in appliances offered by the cabinets also help keep everything in place and out of sight.

In the project covered by the magazine Mi Casa, an ample and luminous room is transformed into a practical and versatile kitchen with an island that boasts storage space and can be enjoyed whilst cooking or during leisure time. The KARMEL and INTRA designs from Santos, both in Sand Grey, were chosen for the kitchen cabinets because of their discreet fronts and their ability to blend in with the houses architecture which is a key factor with open-plan kitchens

Caras Decoraçao analyses a refurbishment in which the kitchen is visually divided in two areas, using a large central island as the dividing element. On one side of the room we find an area with tall units that has space for storage and also for appliances, on the other side is the living-dining room. The simplicity and purity of the cabinets from the KARMEL range from Santos in Silk Matt White helps create a light and open space.

Tecnohaus looks over two renovations in which the kitchen is opened up to different rooms in the house. The first is a white island kitchen in which the thought given to the layout of the different areas is worth highlighting. The work area, with an island, is concentrated in one corner and on the wall opposite we find tall units with solutions for storage and organisation. The breakfast bar is at the same distance from the tall unit area as it is from the island which helps when it comes to either serving or clearing the table. The cabinets, a combination of the LINE-L and SEDA designs from Santos in a Snow White finish, with their colour and minimalist design help create a sober yet warm and welcoming space

Tecnohaus also analyses an open-plan kitchen that opens up to the living-dining room in which the MINOS design cabinets, with its handle reduced to a minimum expression, help the kitchen fuse with other areas in the home. An island, situated between a row of base units and the breakfast area, becomes the centre of the room, accommodating the preparation, cooking and washing-up areas and a small breakfast bar for quick meals. Situated perpendicularly, separating the kitchen from the living-dining room, is an ensemble of tall units that, with their black gloss finish, create a mirror effect that reflects and multiplies the light that enters the room.
