Kitchen with island in a luxurious holiday home

Villa Serena is a single-family holiday home facing the sea, in a luxurious tourist complex in the Papagayo Peninsula (Guanacaste, Costa Rica). It is within a protected area, where buildings are required to comply with strict guidelines in place to ensure the conservation of the spectacular natural environment.
Everything necessary to relax in paradise
The home has a total floor area of 1,390 m2, and consists of two levels connected by means of a lift and stairs, with modules connected to each other through covered outdoor walkways. In response to the steep incline on which the house was built, access to the villa is located at the upper level, through a large monkeypod wooden door suspended between two vertical columns.
The lower level is where the public areas are found, both indoor—kitchen, dining room, living room and multimedia room—and outdoor—barbecue, sitting area, pool and garden—, as well as two suites for guests, as well as the storage and pantry areas. In contrast, the upper level is where the parking, garage, covered entrance, hall, three suites and several utility rooms are found.
To reinforce the connection between indoors and outdoors, there are glass partition walls with large sliding doors, which let plenty of natural light stream in and facilitate the movement of users. Light colours, which predominate in the colour scheme, enhance the home’s brightness.
Kitchen with island integrated into the home’s public areas
The public areas of the house are comprised of the kitchen, dining room and living room in a large, open area that is connected to the outdoor recreational areas. The different rooms are defined without any physical barriers through their materials, the interior design and the ceiling heights.
The kitchen, fitted out with cabinets designed by Santos, is located in a corner of the area. Its cornerstone is a central island that holds the washing-up and preparation areas, aside from numerous options for work and storage: sink unit, drawer unit, ice machine and two dishwashers on its inner side, plus five storage units with doors on its outer side. The worktop continues along its sides and towards the back, creating a counter on which to share breakfast or snacks.
The rest of the furniture follows an L-shaped layout, which is fully integrated into the architecture. Thus, parallel to the island is the cooking area, with a hob unit flanked by two drawer units with full-extension, large-capacity drawers. There are six wall units hanging above them, which come with a LED profile at the bottom to illuminate the work surface. These units hold the hood, keeping it hidden to achieve aesthetic uniformity. The row has two tall storage units at each end, one of which is at the corner. The white central area is framed by a Silestone White Zeus slab, to further enhance its contrast with the wooden finish of the other fronts and linking it aesthetically to the island.
The second section of the L-shaped layout is comprised of five tall units that, within a compact, organised space, hold the ovens, fridge, freezer and units to store supplies and utensils.
The kitchen was planned in such a way as to keep everything within reach, and provides spacious areas to move around in so users can share tasks or spaces without crowding each other. Furthermore, the integration options of Santos furniture, together with its design featuring clean lines, smooth fronts and an exquisite combination of finishes, help to create a harmonious, warm and serene whole, perfectly in tune with the rest of the areas to which the room is connected.
