White kitchen open to the inside and the outside
White Seff LINE-E /
White Seff ARIANE—
This two-storey detached house sits on high ground amidst gardens, fruit trees and eucalyptus trees. Its particular structure is quite striking in an environment characterised by continuous urban development, where four- and five-storey blocks of flats abound.
The building consists of two separate and superimposed structures, with a difference in height between them. They are separated by a window band and, between them, there's a staircase that plays with their materiality and the entry of natural light. The lower block, facing a road, includes the entrance doors, garage, storage areas and other facilities, while the upper block, facing the estate, is where the main rooms of the house are found.
The blocks are also clearly differentiated through the use of different finishes and building systems. For this reason, the ground-level façade—stony and with a few holes—, has been painted in the same way as the retaining wall it replaced. In contrast, the upper-level façade—made of bush-hammered concrete and granite—has been glazed to promote ties with the land.
The open floor plan of the main floor keeps the presence of visual barriers to a minimum, facilitating circulation and interaction among users. This aspect, together with an interior design where white predominates, helps to make the most of the natural light streaming in through the large windows and glass partitions, creating a peaceful, pleasant atmosphere.
The dining room and living room are laid out along the glazed façade, affording them with spectacular views of the garden and plenty of natural light. The furniture, discreet and elegant, adds beauty and comfort without being overwhelming. In this area, a staircase leads to the upper floor, where a study and a guest bedroom can be found.
On the opposite façade, there are two studios and three children's bedrooms with movable partitions, which make it really easy to change the number of rooms and their floor area. The master suite, which comes with its own bathroom and dressing room, is located at the end of the house overlooking the garden.
The kitchen is, without a doubt, one of the hearts of this home. It was designed to be completely open, flowing directly into the dining room and living room, as well as the house’s exterior. Access to the exterior is through a glazed porch which, with its sliding doors open, makes it possible to enjoy the feeling of dining in the open air.
The units are a blend of the LINE-E and ARIANE designs by Santos with a White Seff finish, with the preparation and cooking areas combined together in a peninsula with an attached table. Parallel to it is the washing-up area and a combination of tall units with electrical appliances and storage units. This layout is rounded off with a roller shutter unit, where small electrical appliances can be stored and used without moving them. With all this, users have everything they need to store, work and get together in less than 20 square metres of space.
There’s also a laundry area connected to the kitchen, separated by a sliding door. Its equipment includes a washing machine with a superimposed storage unit, a cabinet with a bag for dirty laundry, two tall units and two utility units.
