Homes Arranged Around the Kitchen
12 / 03 / 2018 —
It is becoming increasingly common for public areas of the home to be arranged around the kitchen. This is why this room—traditionally separate and intended for work—has now become one of the main nexuses for its inhabitants. This is shown by several projects featuredin publications specialising in décor and interior design.
Cocinas y Baños takes a look at two renovation projects, in which the cabinets designed by Santos take centre stage. In the first, the kitchen and living room share a single, spacious, open and bright space, which fosters interaction among users. For the units, the White SM LINE model by Santos was chosen, with two islands in the middle of the room which serve as work areas.
In the second project, the kitchen and living-dining room merge into one single area which is more open, comfortable and functional. The rooms are divided using friendly, integrated solutions, creating minimal impact on the interior design. Thus, a delicate structure of vertical slats visually separates the entrance hall from the kitchen, while the peninsula acts as a divider between the kitchen and the living-dining room. The units, a LINE-E design by Santos with a Silk Sapporo White finish, are striking for the absence of handles and their white Gola profiles.
Casa Viva visits a home in which the kitchen is visually connected to the house’s public areas, which is why units with clean, pure lines were chosen. In this regard, the plain handle-less fronts of the Snow White LINE-L design by Santos give just the right touch of beauty and subtlety. The cabinets are arranged around a large central island which, aside from holding the washing-up, preparation and cooking areas, has multiple storage and organisation solutions.
ByD Blog y Decoración devotes an article to a kitchen that opens out to the living-dining room, designed for storage, working comfortably and enjoying meals with the family. The equipment combines the LINE-L and SEDA models by Santos, both in a Snow White finish. Their minimalist design goes especially well with architecture such as the one in this house, which is characterised by high ceilings and the absence of visual obstacles. In the middle of the room, strategically located in front of a large window and a sliding door, an island lets users enjoy the benefits of natural light and the views while they work.
The renovation published by Decoesfera created a spacious and multifunctional central area that can accommodate the different environments of the house. This is why the kitchen, pantry and living area all merge together into one single space, in which visual barriers are at a minimum. The island kitchen is located in a corner of the floor, with a layout designed to favour the entrance of natural light through the large windows and glass doors. The integration solutions provided by the Snow White LINE-L design cabinets by Santos make it possible to have ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’, a fundamental aspect of open-plan kitchens such as this one.
The blog Cocinas con estilo focused on a home with a free-flowing, open layout, which serves to emphasise the views and the natural light streaming in. The kitchen, arranged around a large island, is the hub of the home, and opens out to public areas such as the living room, dining room and TV room. Aside from the elegant units—a combination of the HG White MINOS and White Seff ARIANE 2 designs by Santos—, the original system of floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, which divides the work area, stands out. This solution makes it possible to close the kitchen for more privacy without losing brightness.
